Trailer Park

with one comment

Jumper—George Lucas once compared Hayden Christensen to James Dean.  Now, I have my appreciations for the Star Wars prequels, but Christiensen’s acting ability isn’t one of them.  However, in the hands of a more capable director more intent on character…he just might be all right.  Because Jumper looks pretty cool.

Juno—the first truly funny trailer I’ve seen in ages.  I just hope the film delivers.  It has the look of my favorite kind of drama: sharp, well-drawn characters; funny and charming, serious in its portrayal of a very real and present issue.  It helps that the film seems to take a pro-life stance as well.

And now, winner of least compelling trailer of the year: Charlie Wilson’s War—Aaron Sorkin’s newest.  And I have to say that, even with the film’s supposed liberal bent, I was really excited to see this until I saw the trailer.

Movie Small Group and other news

leave a comment »

Held the first meeting of the movie small group this weekend and had a grand total of one—yes, that’s right—one person in attendance.

We had a good time talking, this lone individual and me.  We talked about the movies we liked, the ones that held meaning for us.  I played the clips I had planned, read a little about how we view art.  At least one person got fired up for the class.  Maybe they’ll help spread the word when we try again next month.

My review for The Invisible ought to be up on Infuze this week.  I’ll link to it as soon as I see it posted.

This Sunday, my Sunday school class is supposed to put on a sketch for the pastor and his wife for Pastor Appreciation Month.  Naturally, responsibilities for creating said sketch fell to me.  Four weeks ago, actually.  And I have no idea what to write.  I’m thinking about a gag that says cars and computers depreciate, pastors and houses appreciate.  I don’t know; that sounds like it could be pretty lame.  But…

Amusing little anecdote

with 3 comments

One of the security measures employed where I work is a requisite ID badge that hangs around your neck.  When you come to work without one, you must obtain a temporary replacement at the front desk.

Well, this morning I forgot mine and had to get one of these “chump badges” from the receptionist.  I find it somewhat serendipitous because my badge says I’m a “Visitor.” I figure this means I can at least feign ignorance with ease.  “What’s the matter with you, don’t you work here?” someone may ask.

No, no.  I’m just visiting.  See?

Just wanted to pop in and ask you check out Infuze. You see those top two headlines under “latest news?” The name in the byline might look a little different (that’s my editor), but I wrote those.

See here. And here too!

Going Quiet

with 2 comments

I am going to go quiet here for a while.  Not that this means anything drastic—faithful readers (all five of you) know I do this from time to time.

It’s a consequence of blessing, really.  I need to take advantage of the opportunities for writing that have developed, which means maintaining the blog will have to take a back seat for a while.  For some reason, writing it down sort of gives me the mental permission to leave it alone.

Once some of my work ends up on Infuze, I’ll link to it.  For now though, I have to fade for a while.

Will return…
